Brian was recently named the Heart of Washington County award winner for his years of public service.Tom Brian, former Oregon legislator, Tigard mayor and chairman of the Washington County Board of Commissioners, has been named the 2012 Heart of Washington County award winner, presented by the Washington County Museum.

Brian will receive the award Friday at the "Taste of Washington County" event.

The award honors outstanding local residents for their dedication and community service and recognizes their lasting contributions made to the community.

Brian worked in public service for more than 30 years, serving as the chairman of the Washington County Board of Commissioners from 1999 until 2011. From 1979 to 1988, he served as a city councilor and mayor in Tigard. He was a state representative in the Oregon Legislature from 1989 to 1998.

A longtime transportation advocate, Brian led efforts to build the WES commuter-rail line connecting Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville.

Held at the Washington County Museum from 5:30 to 9 p.m., the event features wines and food from local restaurants, caterers and chefs, including Beaverton Bakery, Claeys Catering, Elmer's, Fresh Thyme Soups, Monteaux's Public House, Reedville Catering, Reser's Fine Food and Slick's Big Time BBQ and Catering.

The Washington County Museum is located at 17677 N.W. Springville Road on the Portland Community College's Rock Creek campus.
