Dog days of summer

Monday marked the first official day of fall sports practices at high schools across the state
by: Chase Allgood

Monday marked the first official day of fall sports practices at high schools across the state, and that meant local athletes were back in action on the fields and courts of western Washington County after a long summer layover. The football teams at Forest Grove and Banks started two-a-day practices on Monday, with morning and evening workout sessions, as did the school's volleyball, soccer and cross country teams. At Gaston, practices began on Monday for both football and volleyball. The first contest date for fall sports is Sept. 1, with all three local football teams kicking off their seasons the following day. Forest Grove will host David Douglas, Banks will host Phoenix and Gaston will play Pilot Rock at a neutral location in The Dalles. All three games are set to start at 7 p.m.
