The Oregon Secretary of State's office has announced the next series of its free notary public education seminars, which will be held in Forest Grove on Aug. 25. Gaston firefighters aid Yamhill in putting out fatal wildfire

Gaston firefighters were on the scene of a fatal wildfire Saturday, Aug. 20 that claimed the life of an 80-year-old Carlton man.

Luke Roy, of 637 S. Pine St. in Carlton, was found badly burned at 12020 NW Pike Road, the scene of a four-alarm wildfire in Yamhill County.

The Yamhill County Sheriff's office reports that Roy was injecting fire into gopher holes with a torch when something went wrong and was engulfed in flames.

Fire investigators said it's unclear how the flames got out of hand.

UCC rummage sale coming up

The annual Forest Grove United Church of Christ Rummage Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 28 in the parking lot at 2024 19th St. in Forest Grove.

Merchandise includes antiques, bicycles, books, clothing, collectibles and furniture. Proceeds will be used to help fund church programs and ministries.
