Highway 30 crash in Scappoose sends teen bicyclist to hospital

A 17-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized Monday with a broken pelvis and other injures after crashing into the side of a pick-up truck on Highway 30 in Scappoose.

The teen, who was not wearing a helmet, was biking from the Crown Zellerbach Trail through the highway's intersection around 2:55 p.m. Aug. 22 when he slammed into the driver's side of a southbound truck. Investigators are working to determine who is at fault for the crash.

'We are still trying to put it all together,' said Scappoose Police Lt. Norm Miller.

The bicyclist was sent to Legacy Emanuel to undergo surgeries for his injuries. He is expected to recover.
