Five family-friendly events will take place in one day this Saturday, at various locations near the Old Town area. They'll include a Family Fun Run/Walk, the popular Beaverton Celebration Parade, Old Town Festival, Beaverton Community Vision open house and Bike Beaverton at Schiffler Park. Participation in all the events, with the exception of the Run/Walk, will be free to all.

The 54th annual Beaverton Celebration Parade with its 2011 theme, 'Just Imagine,' will be held at 10 a.m. The pageantry will wind through the city streets, culminating near Beaverton Town Square. The parade route begins at Beaverton Christian Church on Allen Boulevard, heads down Watson to Broadway in Old Town Beaverton.

The Beaverton Old Town Festival from noon to 4 p.m. is the place for family summer fun after the parade. Hosted by the Beaverton Downtown Association and the city of Beaverton Main Street Program, the festival begins where the Beaverton Celebration Parade ends on Broadway.

This year's celebration will include four popular bands, the Bite of Beaverton food fair, a children's fun center, a street fair with local artists, a vintage car show, contest and much more.

'The city's Old Town Festival is getting a bit of a face-lift this year,' said Beaverton Mayor Dennis Doyle. Activities for children include pony rides, a petting zoo, bouncy houses, train rides, performances by Mad Science, the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District's Rec Mobile, games, arts and crafts, and more (call 503-968-3400 / 503-350-4088).
