Our Lady of the Lake starts classes Monday, registrations still possible

by: VERN UYETAKE Workers remain busy doing foundation work at Our Lady of the Lake Parish Center and Education Facility. The school in a revised format opens Monday while the new school will open next fall.

Our Lady of the Lake School will open Monday.

The earlier start time is to accommodate the construction schedule for the new OLL Parish Center and Education Facility. By opening a week earlier, the school can break a week earlier in June 2012 to give construction crews extra time in the summer to complete the final touches on the new building.

There is still opportunity for registration today and Friday (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the school office) and Monday (from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. in the parish hall).

There are still many openings for kindergarten and some for first grade. For grades 2 to 8 there are some scattered openings still available.

For families already enrolled at OLL, completion of paperwork and fee payment begins at 8 a.m. Monday.

'We have made great progress on the new school this summer,' said OLL Office Manager Chris Shepard. 'We expect the foundation for the main school to be poured this week and the foundation for the gymnasium was laid earlier this month.'

Signs appeared on A Avenue this week alerting traffic to the slight delays for the cement truck traffic.

The 55,000-square foot facility will house the K-8 school and the parish offices. The new Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School will open in the fall of 2012.
