The Boring Community Planning Organization will hear Metro Councilor Shirley Craddick speak about the future of land development in the Boring area at its meeting next Tuesday.

Craddick says the topic of her comments is mainly about the process of moving the urban growth boundary into areas designated urban reserve.

She’ll also explain how a nearby city could take jurisdiction over Boring land, if it should be brought inside the UGB.

Also on the meeting’s agenda are reports from CPO committees, land-use issues and continuing discussion on forming a community foundation as well as nominations for several CPO leadership positions.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in the Boring Fire Department, near Highway 212 in downtown Boring.

Mt. Hood Corridor CPO meets Aug. 2

After taking a hiatus last month for the Fourth of July holiday, the Mt. Hood Corridor CPO will resume meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the Dorman Room of the Community Center, 24500 E. Salmon River Road.

Amy Kyle of Water Environment Services will make a presentation about the Hoodland Sewage Plant and the realignment of discharge pipes damaged from the last flood.

Additionally, the group is planning its annual elections for next month’s meeting and seeks officer nominations.

Beginning in October 2012, the group will need a new location for meetings.

Vintage and antique show coming Aug. 4-5

The second Stone Bird Vintage Collectible and Antique Show will return from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the old Sandy High School, 17100 S.E. Bluff Road.

Sponsored by the Sandy Historical Society, the show features an on-site appraiser from 1-3 p.m. each day. Bring three items for a $5 verbal appraisal per item (no jewelry or blades).

Patrick Lamb to play Friday at Resort

Contemporary jazz artist Patrick Lamb will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, on the outdoor Lakeside Lawn of Resort at the Mountain (weather permitting).

Diane Schuur, a two-time Grammy winner, has called Lamb’s performances “simply fabulous!”

Oktoberfest seeks vendors, exhibitors

The 2012 Sandy Oktoberfest organizers are seeking food vendors, craft vendors and artists for this year’s festival, which runs Sept. 7-9.

Food vendors may either be nonprofit organizations or commercial operators. Only one food vendor of each type is allowed in the food court area.

The craft vendors will be outside on a paved area, while the fine arts show is held indoors with lighting and air conditioning.

Summer Sounds are on the way to Meinig Park

The Sandy Summer Sounds and Starlight Cinema are scheduled at Meinig Park on two stages: Theater in the Woods and the Dale Nicholls Main Stage.

The Theater in the Woods, with bench seating available, has planned activities that will interest local residents.

On the Dale Nicholls Main Stage, which might require a blanket or lawn chair, the Brewgrass Festival is scheduled from 5-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Next week, “Fiesta en Meinig” will fill the park with Latin culture, followed with concerts on the rest of August’s Wednesdays.

On Saturdays through Aug. 25, the Dale Nicholls Main Stage is the site of the annual Starlight Cinema movies. Included are “Rango,” “The Muppets,” “Dolphin Tale,” “Hugo” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”

Medical Center hosts 27th annual Healthy Kids Fair

Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center will host the 27th annual Healthy Kids Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at 24800 S.E. Stark St., Gresham.

The event promotes children’s health and safety, with a bike helmet fitting and sale, car seat safety check, car seat recycling program, faux laparoscopic surgery on a teddy bear, public safety vehicle tours, field games, sports demonstrations, teddy bear repairs and more.

Inaugural Barlow Road Ride set for August

The Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum is staging the Barlow Road Ride for the museum, a two-day century road bicycle tour from Oregon City to Government Camp with an optional additional ride up the West Leg Trail to Timberline Lodge.

The ride will begin in Oregon City at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, and run through Aug. 26, starting day two at Cascade Lodge in Government Camp for the return to Oregon City.

Riders of all abilities are invited to participate, with four different route options. The ride is fully backed with rest stops, ride support and volunteers to assist you.

The ride Saturday will culminate in a festival at the museum.

Clackamas Art Alliance seeks applicants

The Clackamas County Arts Alliance will accept applications from artists and artist groups for the 2013 art exhibit program through 5 p.m. Aug. 31.

This juried exhibit program, which began in 2002, has grown from a single location to include 17 gallery spaces in 10 different locations.

Emerging and experienced artists alike present an array of two- and three-dimensional artwork.

Artists are selected through an annual jury progress and keep 100 percent of all exhibit-related sales.

Mt. Hood Area Chamber workshop scheduled for Sept. 18

The Mount Hood Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a free chamber member workshop from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Hoodland Fire Station, 69634 E. Highway 26, Welches.

Ed Bejarana of Zenith Exhibits will present “Social Media and Your Business in 2012.” The workshop is catered toward chamber members’ social media questions that were asked at the last chamber meeting.

Topics include:

• How to better use social media.

• Getting your website known through Pinterest and Facebook.

• How to make the connection between Facebook, Twitter and your business website.

• What Google’s business listings are all about.

• How to use Facebook Analytics to your benefit.
