The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Good Morning Sandy networking event at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Sandy Oktoberfest, St. Michael Catholic Church, 18090 Langensand Road.

The event is held to give opportunities for local entrepreneurs to meet people from other businesses, while enjoying some fun and door prizes.

Bring a dollar to enter a drawing, which gives prizes to the winners and saves 50 cents from each entrant to pay for gifts and food for a needy family next Christmas.

How to advertise with a computer

The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will present its monthly Brown Bag Lunch workshop in August on the topic of online advertising.

Sandy web designer Laura Allen of Alphabetix will conduct the workshop and answer questions.

The workshop is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the chamber office and visitor center, 38963 Pioneer Blvd.

How a business walks legal tightrope

A “Small Business Legal Basics” seminar is offered free at Mt. Hood Community College’s Small Business Development Center, 501 N.E. Hood Ave., Gresham.

In this seminar — offered from noon-1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28 — participants will learn how to protect a small business and deal with some of the legal issues involved.

Topics include avoiding common mistakes with contracts, hiring employees and structuring the business. It also covers licensing regulations as well as tax implications. This seminar, limited to 20 students, is offered in partnership with the law firm Young Twedt McRostie LLP.

Free class on how to start a business

The Mt. Hood Community College Small Business Development Center is offering a free class entitled “Going Into Business: Start Smart.”

The class is offered in a couple of weeks, and will teach the basics of opening a small business in Oregon, including such topics as how to register a business name, open a business bank account and obtain a tax ID number for the business.

The class will be taught from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, through a webinar sponsored by the MHCC Small Business Development Center, 501 NE Hood Ave., Gresham.
