W. Grover Scott

Sept. 4, 1923-Aug. 22, 2011

East County resident W. Grover Scott died Monday, Aug. 22, in Portland. He was 87.

Visitation hours will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 400 S.W. Walters Drive.

Grover was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Wilson County, Tenn., to W. Baxter and Mary (Vaught) Scott. He attended high school in Tennessee and enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He received an honorable discharge after his service.

Grover married June Knudsen on July 20, 1944, in Hawthorne, Nev. They moved to the St. Johns area of Portland in 1952 and then to Southeast Portland. They moved to East County in 1968.

Grover worked as a bus driver for Greyhound and drove throughout Oregon and northern California. He retired in 1983. Grover enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the unofficial neighborhood watch on his block.

His wife, June, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Scott of Bend, Gary Scott of Tucson, Ariz., and Randy Kellogg of Gresham; sister, Betty McKenney of Smithville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Paula Lee Morgan

April 13, 1954-Aug. 8, 2011

Former Gresham resident Paula Lee Morgan, 57, died Monday, Aug. 8, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

A private service will be held. Interment will be in Hawaii.

Paula was born April 13, 1954, at Camp Lejeune, N.C., to Roy and Esther Rucker. Paula was raised in Gresham and graduated from Gresham High School. She attended Linfield College in McMinnville and in 1994 received her bachelor's degree from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

In 1978, she married David Morgan at Gresham-Rockwood Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Hayley Morgan of Honolulu; and parents of Gresham.

Bob Lee Yamamuro

Sept. 2, 1951-July 21, 2011

Former Gresham resident Bob Lee Yamamuro, 59, died Thursday, July 21, in Redondo Beach, Calif.

A private service was held. Interment was at City View Cemetery in Salem.

Bob was born Sept. 2, 1951, in Portland to George and Mary Yamamuro. Bob was raised in Gresham and graduated from Gresham High School in 1969. He attended Brown Mackie College in South Bend, Ind.

Bob was an electronic test engineer.

His brother, Jerry Yamamuro, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sister, Linda Iwasaki of Hillsboro; and brother, Nicholas Yamamuro of Gardena, Calif.

Lorraine V. Davis

Aug. 15, 1929-Aug. 24, 2011

Gresham resident Lorraine V. Davis, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, in Portland.

A viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave. A recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at St. Henry Catholic Church, 346 N.W. First St. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Lorraine was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Portland to Edmund and Katherine (Safranski) Charboneau, one of nine children. Lorraine grew up in Portland and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947. After graduating, Lorraine worked for Meier and Frank in retail sales.

She met Robert Davis and in 1953 they were married in Savannah, Ga. Bob was in the Air Force, so they resided in places all over the world. Lorraine was active with the American Red Cross, assisting in many disaster relief efforts throughout the world such as an earthquake in Turkey. Bob retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1971, and they made their home in Gresham.

Lorraine was a cake decorator and candy maker. She also was an avid Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Mariners fan, as well as a sports fan for football, tennis and basketball.

Lorraine was a member of the Gresham Elks Lodge, the Gresham Eagles and the Altar Society. She also was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, taking an active role in the Polish dinner at St. Anne Catholic Church. She was later a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. She was known as 'Lady Bug' to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband in 2007; and by her son, Dean, in 1986.

Survivors include her daughters, Norine LeCroy of Gresham and Denise Brady of Alameda, Calif.; brother, Edward Charboneau of Portland; sisters, Rena McFeron of Milwaukie and Agnes Bean of Klamath Falls; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Elsie Larson

June 6, 1914-Aug. 23, 2011

Gresham resident Elsie Larson died Tuesday, Aug. 23. She was 97.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Rose City Funeral Home, 5625 N.E. Fremont St., Portland. Interment will be at Rose City Cemetery.

Elsie was born June 6, 1914, in Barron County, Wis., to Robert and Suzie Zell. She was raised in South Dakota.

On May 29, 1947, she married Alvin H. Larson in Portland.

Elsie was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Norse Hall. She loved helping her family, babysitting her grandchildren and gardening, especially her roses.

Her husband preceded her in death Jan. 6, 2008.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie Davis of Astoria, Karen Ross of Corbett and Cathy Stoltz of Corbett; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Doris Faye Gustafson

June 6, 1942-Aug. 19, 2011

Former Gresham resident Doris Faye Gustafson, 69, died Friday, Aug. 19, in Mesa, Ariz. 

A funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 26, at Mt. Hood Christian Center in Gresham. A committal service was at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.

Doris was born June 6, 1942, in Cottage Grove to Herbert and Mable (Powers) Reed. Doris graduated from David Douglas High School and then worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills, where she met Howard Gustafson. They married in 1963 in Gresham.

Doris resided in Gresham for 41 years before she and Howard moved to Queen Creek, Ariz. She was known for her culinary and artistic talents.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Gary Gustafson of Milwaukie, Ron Gustafson of Vancouver, Wash., and Don Gustafson of Queen Creek; sister, Phyllis Vertrees of Tigard; brother, Vernon Reed of Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Francis 'Fred' Phillip Lamb

May 9, 1926-Aug. 22, 2011

Gresham resident Francis 'Fred' Phillip Lamb, 85, died Monday, Aug. 22.

No service will be held.

Fred was born May 9, 1926, in Portland to John and Edna (Norvell) Lamb. Fred was raised in Portland. While in high school, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Yorktown from 1943 to 1945 and was wounded and received a Purple Heart.

After his honorable discharge, Fred married Dorothy Marie Moyer on March 29, 1948, in Portland.

In 1948, Fred and his family moved to Seaside, where he worked as a mechanic. He moved back to Portland in 1959 and became a firefighter with District 13. He retired from District 10 in 1984.

Fred loved hunting. He enjoyed operating a ham radio, making stained-glass lampshades and loop rugs, cooking, baking, canning and making homemade hard candy. He was a member of the Seaside American Legion Post 1 and the National Rifle Association.

His wife preceded him in death in 2009.

Survivors include his son, Robert Lamb of Fairview; brother, Jack Lamb of Oregon City; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
