by: DAVID F. ASHTON - It's a horde of riders, heading across the Sellwood Bridge during the Portland Bridge Pedal.Motorists failing to heed the “Bridge Closed” signs near the Sellwood Bridge were the only grumpy people early on Sunday, August 12, during the 2012 Portland Bridge Pedal.

Only a portion of the 18,000 participants chose the longest, 35-mile “10-Bridge Ride”, route – which took bikers down S.E. Milwaukie Avenue, around Sellwood Boulevard, and by Sellwood Park – and finally over the Sellwood Bridge.

Now in its 17th year, the Bridge Pedal is said to be the third-largest organized bike ride in the nation.
