Window-smashing auto vandals strike in Sellwood

by: DAVID F. ASHTON - Not only were the rear windows smashed out of these particular three cars on S.E. 19th in Sellwood but they also had other badly-cracked windows, too. After a similar windshield-smashing spree the previous day in the Hosford-Abernathy “Ladds Addition” section, on the morning of August 23rd Sellwood residents along S.E. 19th Avenue near Umatilla Street found automobile rear windows smashed in, and windshields cracked.

Portland Police Central Precinct officers were called to the area, responding to a “car prowl” call early that morning, Police Public Information Officer Lt. Robert King told THE BEE.

“While in the area, officers observed at least four additional cars with broken windows,” King added.

Asked if these crimes might be related to the Hosford-Abernathy vandalism, King replied, “It’s not known if these incidents are related to the similar crimes that occurred on Wednesday morning.”

Owners of any vandalized vehicles were encouraged to file reports online at: HYPERLINK "http://www.portlandpolice.com" www.portlandpolice.com
