Grants will aid educational efforts of public school teachers

A grant program for educators in Columbia County is accepting applications this fall.

The G.A.P.S. Foundation (Generating Assistance for Public Schools) began its sixth annual grant program Sept. 10. A total of $40,000 will be awarded to public school educators in Columbia, Clatsop, Tillamook and Washington counties. Awards ranging between $100 and $2,500 will be given to aid in the creation of special projects in the following areas: Early Intervention/Early Childhood Education, special needs and underprivileged youth, Northwest Outdoor Science School, and professional, technical and vocational programs.

The G.A.P.S. Program is meant to provide financial help to special programs in the Northwest Regional Education service District.

The application process continues until Oct. 12. Awards will be announced Nov. 16. Learn more at www.gapsfoundation.org.
