Three charged in Welches home break-in

Two men and a woman from the Portland area were arrested in Welches on Saturday, Sept. 8, on allegations of burglary, robbery and other related charges.

After the suspects, Keith Alan Tupper, 18, and John Lewis Dixon Jr., 19, allegedly entered a home on Mountain Air Drive, the resident, Beau Collins, and a neighbor, Stewart Haney, confronted them.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report at 11:30 a.m.

Police said one suspect was armed with a knife, and the other held a bat. Haney and Collins detained one suspect while the other fled the scene. He was spotted a few blocks away by a sergeant and arrested.

Deputies discovered these suspects had planned the burglary and targeted the home, according to the report.

They also discovered a third suspect, Melinda Dawn Hanke, 26, who knew the victims and had stayed the night at their house. The morning of the crime, Hanke allegedly had given the victims a ride to the Hempstalk 2012 festival in Portland.

Knowing the residents no longer would be home, the other two suspects entered the house, police alleged.

Hanke was arrested later that day, and all suspects were booked into the Clackamas County Jail.
