Volunteers host a trail opening party at the White Oak Savanna

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - A glimpse of the rare 14-acres on the White Oak Savanna. Volunteers have spent more than 1250 hours all summer working on trails at the White Oak Savanna. The group will host a trail opening party on Sept. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the White Oak Savanna on Tannler Drive in West Linn.

In 2009, Neighbors for a Livable West Linn obtained grants of $333,000 each from the City of West Linn, the State of Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation and Metro to purchase 14 acres of the White Oak Savanna. This summer volunteers cleared trails and removed invasive species.

The organization is also working to purchase the remaining five or so acres of the savanna.
