Books, films in the spotlight

Some of the most respected writers among the literary community will assemble to entertain local residents during the monthly version of an artists’ salon in Sandy.

The Artist’s Edge Salon will be open from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Lori Ryland’s studio and gallery, 39110 Proctor Blvd.

Yuvi Zalkow will read from his new book, “A Brilliant Novel in the Works.” A multi-talented artist, Zalkow also will present his heartbreaking and hilarious video, “I’m a Failed Writer.”

Zalkow will sign his books on request at the Sunday afternoon salon.

Among the quintet of professional artists at the event, Dane Vandewiele and Julius Kuziemski will show their filmmaking skills.

The duo recently formed a video production troupe they call the Cosmic Embers, and they will show two short films, “Hardpan Zingers” and “The Dark Knight Razes.” Vandewiele won the Best Young Filmmaker award from the da Vinci Film Festival in Corvallis. Kuziemski is a professional photographer from Estacada.

Also on the program, Tom Murphy will present his short films, and Stevan Allred will read another one of his popular linked short stories.

Allred, of Estacada, is a writer, editor and publisher who loves to read short stories.

Besides being one of the favorites at the salon, Allred is the featured host of the annual Writers Night presented by the Estacada Arts Commission.
