Lion runners impressive in crossover meet

The West Linn cross country team ran in a crossover dual last week against the rest of the Three Rivers League and the Mt. Hood Conference and held its own against the tough competition at Clackamas Community College.

The West Linn boys put together an impressive performance, placing six runners in the top 25 individually to take second place behind Lakeridge.

Tyler Griffin led the way for the Lions, taking fifth place individually in 16:58.06, just 16 seconds behind the winner, Lakeridge's Julian Heninger. It marked the first time in Griffin's high school career that he broke 17 minutes.

A trio of talented freshmen also came up big for the Lions. Roman Ollar took ninth place in 17:22.32, Colin Squires finished in 13th in 17:30. 46 and Grayson Ollar took 23rd in 18:03.46.

The strength of West Linn's freshman class this year has given the team depth and high hopes that the Lions can contend in the very strong Three Rivers League.

Connor Cushman was West Linn's No. 4 runner in the race, taking 18th place in 17:53.21 and Michale Sullivan was 21st in 18:01.48.

For the girls, Rebecca Donnelly led the way with a 14th-place showing in 21:29.71, her best time of the year so far.

Leah Henningsen was next in 22nd while Marija Jozic, Julia Boyd-Helm, Hanna Morford and Tara Galloway all cracked the top-50.

The Lions competed in a dual at Oregon City on Wednesday and will take place in the Northwest Classic this weekend in Eugene.
