Grant scores on its first two drives to beat Barlow 21-10

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Barlow running back Colby Winnett turns the corner, while a Grant tackler closes in during the Generals 21-10 win Friday.

Barlow came up with a pair of fourth-down stops to give itself a chance Friday night, but a bumble of its own helped Grant slam the door on a 21-10 win.

Leading 14-3 late in the first half, the Generals drove inside the 10-yard line before stalling out. A third-down catch in the end zone spilled out of bounds, and Barlow linebacker Cole Holmlund broke into the backfield to bring down Grant halfback Bryant Peek on 4th-and-1.

Grant tried again on the opening drive on the second half, moving the ball inside the 10 again only to be turned away on another fourth-down stop.

But a Barlow fumble handed the ball back to the Generals, who weren’t going to be denied a third time. Nathan Halvorson went over from 1-yard out to put Grant up 21-3.

Barlow (0-4) opens the Mount Hood Conference schedule next Friday at David Douglas (2-2).

Grant scored on its first two possessions Friday for a 14-0 lead before Barlow got on the scoreboard just before halftime on a 33-yard field goal by Zach Standish.
