KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Portland Winterhawks raised their record to 2-1-0-0 with a 4-2 win Sunday over the Tri-City Americans.

Nic Petan and Chase De Leo each scored two goals as the Hawks won their second in a row, both on the road, after a 5-2 opening-night loss Friday at home to Seattle.

Petan finished the three-game weekend with a WHL-high eight points (four goals, four assists).

Tri-City fell to 0-2-0-0.

Petan opened the scoring at 13:34, and De Leo made the score 2-0 with a power- play goal at 16:21.

Only 45 seconds later, the Americans got a goal by Lucas Nickles to close the first-period scoring.

In the second frame, De Leo scored and then Petan got a power-play goal to make it 4-1 Portland.

Tri-City scored with the man advantage at 15:27 on a goal by Mitch Topping.

But neither team scored in the third period.

Troy Rutkowski, Portland defenseman and captain, had three assists Sunday. He leads all WHL D-men in scoring with six points (all assists).

Brendan Burke picked up the win, stopping 24 shots.

Eric Comrie was in goal for the Americans, and he made 32 saves.

Portland was 2 of 4 on the power play and 3 for 4 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks are off until next weekend's rematch of last season’s first-round playoff series. Portland will play host to the Kelowna Rockets at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Both games are at the Rose Garden.
