Driver hits cross country runner and flees

A 16-year-old male cross country runner was hit from behind by a vehicle last week in Rainier and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the unknown driver.

The teen was unconscious for a period of time when struck by a vehicle near Parkdale and Meserve roads between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 19. After coming to, the runner told deputies he was able to make his way back to Rainier High School and report the incident to his father.

The boy was taken to St. John Medical Center in Longview with multiple bruises on his back, shoulder blade and thigh, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

Deputies were unable to locate the driver who reportedly hit the teen.
