Update: Arrest made in Burnside Bridge death

A woman in her 20s was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Burnside Bridge early Sunday.

Later in the day, the Traffic Division Major Crash Team and East Precinct Officers made an arrest in the case. Kemisha Anderson, 30, was arrested and booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center on Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver.

The name of the victim was not immediately available. According to police, witnesses say the woman may have been sleeping on a sidewalk on the bridge, gotten up and wandered into a traffic lane, where she was hit.

A witness described the suspect vehicle as a white Chevrolet Impala that drove away.

According to police, Central Precinct officers responded to the mid-span of the bridge at 2:34 a.m. on Sept. 30 and found an injured adult woman in the eastbound traffic lanes. The officers called for AMR ambulance and Portland Fire & Rescue to treat the woman, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The bridge was closed to traffic for several hours. The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division Major Crash Team is conducting the investigation.
