Girl, 11, dies after falling out of party bus window

Bus was transporting children in downtown Portand

An 11-year-old girl died after she fell out of a party bus window in Southwest Portland Saturday evening.

Her name was not immediately released.

Portland Police Bureau spokesman Lt. Robert King told KOIN Local 6 News the girl was on a bus full of kids on their way to a Quinceañera around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As the bus turned from Southwest 1st Avenue onto Southwest Harrison Street, the girl fell out an emergency exit window. She died from her injuries at the scene.

"As they went around the corner she apparently leaned against the window, the emergency exit, and the window swung freely, swung open and she fell out," said King.

Residents in nearby Harrison Towers apartment complex said they heard screaming for several minutes and looked outside to see a body in the street.

King said this appears to be a horrible, tragic accident, but said investigators will continue to interview witnesses and the other kids who were on the party bus.

A Quinceañera is a special birthday party for girls who turn 15 that is traditional in Latin American countries and countries with Latin American populations.
