State and Gaston crews battle remote forest fire
A fire that in the watershed that provides the primary source of water in the summer to Hillsboro, Forest Grove, Hillsboro and other Washington County communities has been contained.
The Oregon Department of Forestry reports that a fire in remote territory approximately 20 miles west of Henry Hagg Lake had been contained after burning just under an acre. The Scoggins Dam in Hagg Lake, which is fed by the watershed, is a primary source of water in western Washington County.
According to the ODF, the Gaston Rural Fire Department dispatched a water tender and several firefighters to assist the in the fight. State resources based in Forest Grove battled the fire that was reported just after noon on Sunday burning in forest land southof Saddle Mountain. Three 10-person crews from the South Fork Forest Camp were mobilized to assist.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
