Two California teens die in I-84 rollover

Two California teenagers were killed Saturday, Sept. 29, after the minivan they were traveling in rolled over off Exit 18 on Interstate 84 westbound around 9:10 p.m.

A third occupant of the vehicle, Shawn McCall, 20, remains in the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Brittany A. Patty, 18, of Bakersfield, Calif., was declared dead at the scene, and Luke J. Dial, 18, also of Bakersfield, died later from injuries after being transported by LifeFlight to the hospital.

All three occupants had been ejected from the vehicle. The initial report did not say who was driving.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Troutdale Police Department and Gresham Fire & Rescue Services responded to the accident. The onramp and offramp at Exit 18 on I-84 westbound were closed for several hours Saturday night as an investigation was conducted.

Lt. Steve Alexander, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said Monday the East County Vehicular Crimes team was still investigating the rollover accident.
