Donations to the online auction offer an array of items and services up for bid

Project POOCH Inc., a nonprofit organization that teaches youth offenders to train and prepare shelter dogs for adoption, and business partner Dave’s Killer Bread announced the annual online auction “POOCH in the Pub” will begin Sunday, Oct. 7 at 12:01 a.m.

The auction is Project POOCH’s fall fundraising effort that begins with a kick-off dinner Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Oswego Lake Country Club. The bidding will continue online for two weeks, ending Saturday, Oct. 20 at 11:59 p.m. This year the auction has received a selection of more than 100 donated goods and services from community businesses and individuals in support of Project POOCH.

A sampling of auction items includes a personal performance by world-renowned jazz musician Tom Grant; a one-week getaway to The Inn at Otter Crest (plus a day of golf for two); and a Nike golf cap autographed by Phil Knight. Additional auction items include lodging accommodations at the Oregon Coast and Mt. Hood, vacation packages to Hawaii and Mexico, Columbia River sailboat cruises, date night and party events, pet care and boarding, unique artwork and crafts, professional services, gift certificates and — of course — dog training sessions conducted by Project POOCH program participants.

“We are grateful for the generous donations to the auction benefiting Project POOCH,” said Sharlene Erickson, the program’s auction chairperson. “The program is fortunate to have so many business owners support its vision. In turn, we will continue to make good use of the funds we receive.”

Erickson states that, because of the organization’s carefully managed budget, Project POOCH spends 88 percent of its funding directly on program expenses related to its tax-exempt purpose.
