The Bowmen sprint past Liberty to move to 5-0 on the season

HILLSBORO — The Sherwood High School football team got off to a super-fast start.

And the Bowmen just right on rolling through the first three quarters.

Sherwood jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead pushed the margin to 61-8 after three quarters on its way to posting a 61-20 win over Liberty in a Northwest Oregon Conference game played Friday at Liberty High School.

Liberty dropped to 1-2 in league play and to 1-4 on the season with the setback. Sherwood stayed perfect on the season, moving to 5-0 while also improving to 3-0 in NWOC games, putting the Bowmen in a tie with Wilsonville for first place in the league standings.

Junior halfback Scott Skurdahl got the scoring spree started for the Bowmen in Friday’s game at Liberty with a 39-yard touchdown run.

Junior fullback Jake Reimer added a 13-yard TD run and senior quarterback Joseph Balfour threw a 10-yard scoring pass to senior halfback Jordan Skoubo to help the Bowmen open up a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

Reimer kept things going in the second quarter with a 28-yard touchdown run. Junior quarterback Kevin Larkin followed with a 40-yard TD pass to senior halfback Cristian Morris to up the margin to 35-0.

Liberty got a 1-yard TD run by A.J. Antillion later in the second quarter to trim the margin to 35-8 at halftime.

But the Bowmen pulled away — in a big way — in the third quarter.

Balfour and Morris teamed up on a 41-yard touchdown pass play to get the third-quarter scoring parade started. Junior Keegan Lawrence added a 21-yard TD run. Junior Tanner Shadbolt scored on a 2-yard run and senior Jack Matney had a 51-yard run to up the lead to 61-8 going into the fourth quarter.

Sherwood, as a team, rushed for 445 yards on 33 carries in the victory.

Morris led a balanced Bowmen attack with 103 yards on three carries. He added two receptions for 81 yards. Shadbolt rushed for 86 yards on four carries and Matney had 53 yards on two carries.

Balfour completed five of six pass attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Larkin completed three of five passes for 62 yards and a score.

The Bowmen will be back in action Friday when they host Parkrose in a league game starting at 7 p.m. at Sherwood High School.
