Museum looks for help in new home

The Washington County Museum is seeking volunteers to help staff its future home in the Hillsboro Civic Center, which will open to the public in November 2012.

Two general information programs about the new volunteer opportunities are scheduled at the museum’s current location on the Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus, 17677 N.W. Springville Road, Portland.

The first is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. The second is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

“With 12,000 square feet of future exhibit space, we have a great need for volunteers and numerous ways to get involved,” says Marcia Hale, the new guest and volunteer services coordinator at the museum. “We will be expanding the roles of volunteers especially as education interpreters, greeters, and working in our retail gift store.”

The future exhibit space will be open Wednesday through Sundays with two volunteer shifts per day, requiring four to six people each. Volunteers will be needed to staff the exhibit galleries, selling tickets, merchandise and memberships.

The volunteer program seeks outgoing and enthusiastic people who enjoy engaging people in learning adventures.

Volunteers should be available for at least three four-hour shifts per month, for a commitment of 40 hours minimum per year. Volunteers need to be 16 and older.

For more information, and to reserve a spot at one of the information sessions, call Hale, 503-645-5353.
