On Dec. 31, the McDonald's fast-food chain submitted a request to the city for a proposed restaurant on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the Eliot neighborhood. That request went to the city's Office of Planning and Development Review.

The proposal includes a new building with a drive-through lane and parking lot. Such a plan is allowed at this location, but McDonald's is in the process of revising its design to meet specific zoning code requirements, city planner Kristen Minor said. When the new submittal is received by the city, a revised 'Notice of Proposed Development' will be mailed, Minor said.

A decision is due about two weeks later. The Office of Planning and Development Review decision can be appealed to the city's Design Commission, which would hold a public hearing.
