Ten pro stars with state of Oregon ties are in line to win the Harry Glickman Professional Athletes of the Year Awards on Feb. 24.
One male and one female pro will walk off with Glickmans at The Oregon Sports Awards, an ESPY-like show sponsored by the Portland Tribune and Nike.
The event is set for the Tiger Woods Center at the Nike World Campus in Beaverton. A reception will start at 5:30 p.m., with the stage show scheduled for 7:30. Bill Schonely will be the master of ceremonies.
Male finalists for the Glickman honor are Portland Beavers third baseman Sean Burroughs, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Terrell Brandon, New York Yankees third baseman Scott Brosius, PGA Senior Tour player Bob Gilder and Seattle SuperSonics guard Gary Payton.
The female finalists are soccer stars Shannon MacMillan and Tiffeny Milbrett, track champions Maria Mutola and Marla Runyan, and Portland Fire guard Jackie Stiles.
Twelve other awards will be presented at The Oregon Sports Awards. Other categories: the Bill Hayward Amateur Athletes of the Year; Slats Gill Award, to an outstanding coach or administrator; Johnny Carpenter Prep Athletes of the Year; Steve Prefontaine Award, to an exemplary high school distance runner; Ad Rutschman Small College Athletes of the Year; Special Olympics Athlete of the Year; George Pasero Team Award, and special merit awards.
