Honors go to Trib writers
Portland Tribune sportswriters have won two major awards by vote of their peers.
Sports Editor Steve Brandon has been named Oregon Sportswriter of the Year for 2001 by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Kerry Eggers took third in column writing in the Professional Basketball Writers Association's annual contest.
Brandon will join Bill Schonely, play-by-play voice of the Portland Beavers, who was named Oregon's Broadcaster of the Year by the NSSA, at the organization's awards banquet April 27-29 in Salisbury, N.C.
Winners from all 50 states, along with national winners Rick Reilly of Sports Illustrated and Chris Berman of ESPN, have been invited.
Eggers' competition consisted of NBA columnists and beat writers from throughout the United States and parts of Canada.
