Architect moving

into Brewery Blocks

GBD Architects, designers of the Brewery Blocks on West Burnside Street, will move into its signature project in summer 2003.

The 46-member firm is leasing between 10,000 and 12,000 square feet on the third floor of Block 2, the former Blitz-Weinhard brew house.

'We're excited to be in what is going to be a signature project for that area and puts us near the streetcar line,' GBD partner Alan Beard said.

GBD, which also is designing the new St. Francis apartments and YWCA on Southwest 10th Avenue, has been located at 920 S.W. Third Ave. for the past 20 years.

One of its Brewery Block neighbors may well be AT&T Wireless, which now occupies six floors in the AT&T Center at Southwest Fourth Avenue and Market Street. The company's 10-year lease expires in December, and the Brewery Blocks is one of the locations it is considering. files

for Chapter 11

Just a few months ago, music dealer Inc. was poised to expand from about 20 stores to 300 with the acquisition of Oklahoma City-based CD Warehouse Inc. Now, the Portland-based company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The acquisition was not completed because Djangos could not raise the necessary money, said Steve Furst, the company's president. The company hopes to emerge from the restructuring in about four months.
