Tonight, Trail Blazer forward Rasheed Wallace returns to the team's lineup after a seven-game suspension for a post-game confrontation with a referee.
The suspension was the latest in a long string of controversies surrounding both Wallace and the Trail Blazer team. Wallace has led the National Basketball Association in technical fouls for the last two seasons, and several of his teammates have been suspended or arrested during the past year. The controversies have damaged the team's image among its fans and in the national media.
Ten years ago, former NBA star Charles Barkley famously declared that he had no interest in being anyone's role model. But there seems to be little question that the habits, styles and behaviors of NBA players Ñ particularly in Portland Ñ set a tone for young athletes and other followers of the game.
With that in mind, the Tribune asked two Portland area high school coaches for their thoughts on the example being set by Wallace and his teammates.
