Portland likely to get more fights

More boxing probably is in the Rose Garden's future.

'I think we'll do more. We're holding some dates,' says Jim McCue, vice president of facility sales and marketing for the Rose Quarter. 'It'll be spring or summer.'

The fourth pro card in recent months ÑÊand the third staged by Spirit Mountain Casino and Golden Boy Promotions Ñ drew an announced 5,355 last week.

'To go from zero (cards) to four in six months is a big ramp-up,' McCue says.

Portlanders Greg Piper, Joe Gusman and Jose 'Tony' Martinez all won undercard fights last Thursday.

RUGBY SHOWCASE: Jester Fest, the Pacific Northwest's largest collegiate and high school rugby tournament, is set for Saturday and Sunday at Camp Withycombe at the Oregon Military Department in Clackamas. Games start at 10 a.m. both days.
