More than 350 pieces of art will be offered in auctions as part of Cascade Aids Project's daylong fund-raiser, 'Art for Life.' The 'grand event,' which includes food and festivities, runs from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., with entertainment by James Canfield and the Oregon Ballet Theatre. The original hunky bad guy, Don Juan, was the subject of what is arguably Mozart's most popular opera. Portland State University's opera students make up the cast. Sherrill Milnes, a renowned baritone who sang for more than 25 years with the Metropolitan Opera, serves as artistic consultant.

Fans of pottery don't fool around: Lines traditionally form each morning before the convention center opens. More than 200 artists display work in the showcase gallery and 143 booths. Visitors also can take in the annual shows of the metalworkers, hand weavers and glass guilds.
