After the Classic comes Pre and a pole vault showdown

Russian Svetlana Feofanova is expected to make her U.S. outdoor pole vault debut against rival Stacey Dragila in the other major Oregon meet, the Prefontaine Classic, May 24 in Eugene.

Feofanova, 22, is a former world record-holder with a best of 15-8 1/4, one inch shy of Dragila's world outdoor record. Dragila, 32, also holds the world indoor mark at 15-8 1/4.

The 29th annual Pre Classic and the Adidas Oregon Track Classic are two of the country's three World Grand Prix events (the third is in Palo Alto, Calif., on June 7).

The Pre Classic has been a major draw for many years. Last year, 11,227 fans jammed into Hayward Field to watch the meet, and promoter Tom Jordan is expecting a similar throng this year as the athletes battle for $170,000 in prize money.
