Jackie Stiles was scheduled to have surgery on her right heel Wednesday in Houston, but she hopes to recover and play for the Los Angeles Sparks this season.
The former Portland Fire guard, who has had two surgeries on her heel, needed medical clearance for her contract with the Sparks to be valid. Her foot specialist, Dr. Don Baxter, says she risks rupturing the Achilles tendon without another procedure.
The Sparks still retain her rights.
'I don't know if I'm out for the season, yet,' Stiles tells the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader. 'We don't know how bad it is. I can't wait another two more months to let it get better, because if I do need a tendon repaired, then (the recovery time) would affect my next season, too.'
