Forum to explore police shootings

A public forum on police shootings is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday in Room 228 of Smith Center at Portland State University.

Sponsored by the school's Black Cultural Affairs Board and Mecha, a Latino student organization, the forum will feature a panel with representatives from the two groups as well as Portland CopWatch and the Citizen Review Committee, which reviews complaints against police as part of the city auditor's office. It will be moderated by Jose Padin, an assistant professor in PSU's sociology department.

The forum is being held in response to the police killing of Kendra James, who was shot May 5 trying to drive away from an early-morning traffic stop.
