Whats ahead for the Portland Seven

A hearing on legal motions in the Portland Seven case is set for Oct. 1. The trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 5, 2004.

The defendants are Habis Abdulla Al Saoub, who has not yet been found and arrested; Jeffrey Leon Battle and his former wife, October Martinique Lewis; brothers Ahmed Ibrahim Bilal and Muhammad Ibrahim Bilal; Patrice Lumumba Ford; and Maher Mofeid 'Mike' Hawash.

The defendants are accused of taking part in conspiracies to levy war against the United States; providing material support and resources to al-Qaida; and contributing services to al-Qaida and the Taliban. Al Saoub, Battle, the Bilal brothers and Ford also face firearms charges, and Lewis and Ford also are accused of money laundering for allegedly wiring money to some of their codefendants.
