Homicide count totals 13 as of early July
There have been 13 homicides in Portland so far in 2003, all but one occurring before July 1. They are as follows:
Jan. 4: Ronald Buck Spencer, 33, Northeast Portland. Shot at home. Died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Lonzall Tatum, 33, an acquaintance, was arrested and pleaded not guilty.
Jan. 5: Cassondra Brown, 18, North Portland. Benjamin Cramer, 18, her boyfriend, was arrested and pleaded not guilty.
Jan. 15: Jennifer Pam Hazen, 37, North Portland. Chad Hazen, 41, her husband, was arrested and pleaded not guilty.
Jan. 27: Morris R. Rivers, 48, Sacramento, Calif. Shot in car, unsolved. Possibly drug-related.
Feb. 9: Alicia Casey, 19, Northwest Portland. Her boyfriend, James C. Fitzhugh, 21, was arrested and pleaded not guilty.
Feb. 16: Grigory Rogozhnikov, 33, Northeast Portland. Stephen Barr, 62, was arrested and pleaded not guilty to various charges; a trial is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2004.
March 28: Carlos Hernandez-Sanchez, 31, Southeast Portland. Unsolved. Shot in upper torso. Possibly gang-related. A Crime Stoppers reward is offered for the suspect.
April 5: Jason L. Elye, 30, Northeast Portland. Unsolved. Died of gunshot wounds in possible drive-by shooting. Possibly gang-related.
May 5: Kendra James, 21, North Portland. Officer Scott McCollister exonerated by grand jury.
May 23: Jessica Kate Williams, 22, Southeast Portland. Thirteen members of her street 'family' were arrested; a Crime Stoppers reward is offered for another suspect.
May 29: Joseph Michael Paulson, 47, Canby. Unsolved. Victim had been living in transitional housing; he died from injuries sustained in an altercation on West Burnside Street. A Crime Stoppers reward is offered for the suspect.
June 10: Christine 'Chris' Ione Lawson, 43, Northwest Portland. Unsolved. Lawson was a transient and died of strangulation. A Crime Stoppers reward is offered.
July 7: Andrew Mikes, 23, Northeast Portland. Shot in car, unsolved. Possibly gang-related.
