As tall orders go, this one rises Manute Bol-like for Oregon State, which is 6-1 at home this season but 1-3 away from the friendly confines of Reser Stadium. Southern Cal is far and away the best team in the Pac-10. The second-ranked Trojans have every part of the game covered, and sophomore quarterback
Matt Leinert has given them more than they ever could have expected as the successor to Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer.
The Oregon State defense will give USC problems, and the Beaver offense is capable of putting points on the board. Critics point quickly to QB Derek Anderson and his problems with consistency. The OSU offensive line must find a way to open holes for Steven Jackson, or the Trojans can either blitz Anderson or lay back and dare him to throw into heavy coverage.
This game will be competitive, but the Beavers need a near-perfect performance Ñ and a few breaks going their way Ñ to score their first win at USC since 1960 and their biggest upset since the 1985 victory at Washington.
THE PICK: Trojans 28, Beavers 13
