Creating an EcoDistrict near you

Session helps train activists

Want to make your whole neighborhood more sustainable?

The nonprofit Portland Sustainability Institute offers a full day of training on Sept. 23 for professionals and community activists hoping to promote EcoDistricts, which take the green building concept to the neighborhood level.

The session will guide participants through the five phases of creating an EcoDistrict: how to organize one; how to assess possible energy, water and other conservation projects; how to test the feasibility of projects; how to develop projects; and how to monitor the results.

Presenters include Rob Bennett, executive director of the institute; program manager Naomi Cole; and technical director Tom Puttman; plus Mark Edlen , a leading green developer from Portland.
