Forest Grove opens Pacific Conference play with a scoreless draw against longtime rival McMinnville
Forest Grove's offense still needs a little work, but the defense held firm last Thursday to open the Pacific Conference girls soccer season with a 0-0 draw against McMinnville.
The Lady Vikings are still adjusting to the possession oriented style they will play under first-year head coach Jaime Ramos, but the back line did a good job of keeping Mac from beating them with long passes over the defense.
'We did a pretty good job of keeping the ball in front of us,' Ramos said. 'We were trying to play possession, but it is tough when you are playing a team that tries to go over the top like they did.'
McMinnville held a 7-3 shot advantage, but neither team found the back of the net.
Forest Grove returned to action on Tuesday against Hillsboro, but results were not available at press time.
'Obviously we want to improve on our attacking in the last third of the field,' Ramos said. 'Hopefully we can create some opportunities to score.'
