Umpqua Challenge raises $100,000

The 2012 Umpqua Bank Challenge tournament raised $100,000 for nonprofit partners I Have a Dream Foundation - Oregon and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. The Umpqua Bank Challenge is a three-day exhibition-style golf tournament that was played in August at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha.

Funds raised by the 2012 challenge support the hire of a middle school program manager who will follow 180 “Dreamers” from Alder Elementary into two Reynolds District middle schools. Funds contributed to Randall Children’s Hospital will be used in continued support of a family conference and resource room on the third floor of the new state-of-the-art facility, which opened in February.

“These two hard-working and well-deserving nonprofit organizations provide remarkable services to Portland-area children and their families,” said tournament host Peter Jacobsen. “They have also been tremendous partners to this event over the past two years.”

Tournament organizers also announced that the Umpqua Bank Challenge will not take place in 2013 so they can reevaluate the market conditions and overall event viability. For more information, visit umpquabankchallenge.com.

The Martinssons’ donation will support programs that enable low income, uninsured and underinsured individuals to receive the gift of sight through eyeglasses.
