Jo the super dog helps Lions Club raise funds to fight breast cancer

by: CLIFF NEWELL - The Lake Oswego Lions Club has enlisted the services of Jo the German shepherd this month to raise funds to fight breast cancer. It is hard to miss a German shepherd dressed up in a Super Man costume.

That is what the Lake Oswego Lions Club figured when members brought in Jo the German shepherd to help raise money to fight breast cancer.

Jo’s job is to hang out near the check-out area at Safeway on A Avenue and encourage customers to give some money in exchange for being allowed to pet her. A good time is had by all.

Jo is the dog owned by staunch Lions Club member Sarah DeMerritt, and dog and owner plan to be at Safeway every day until the end of the month to raise money. And also to encourage people to join the Lake Oswego Lions Club, which does an awful lot of good in the community.

“If you dress up a dog, people will give donations,” said DeMerritt, who often has her 10-year-old canine accompany her on Lions charity work. “She has Yoda, hotdog, bee and hoodie costumes. The Super Man costume works the best.”

DeMerritt got Jo from the Humane Society, and now Jo is doing good for society. Certainly it will be worth a buck or two to pet Jo when you shop at Safeway.
