A Rainier man charged with 16 counts of filming children in sexual positions and one count of possessing child pornography pleaded guilty in federal court last week and is expected to make another plea in Columbia County Circuit Court next month.

Michael Edward McCann, 55, is charged in Circuit Court with an additional 51 counts of sodomy, incest and sexual abuse. A Columbia County grand jury indicted McCann on the charges in 2009.

Federal prosecutors later took an interest in McCann due to his penchant for filming and storing images of the crimes on his home computer, which are federal offenses. They have since taken the lead on the case.

'The state and the federal prosecutor have been working together [on this],' said Deputy District Attorney John Berg, who's built the state's case against McCann.

Berg said some of McCann's crimes fall under Measure 11 mandatory sentencing guidelines, but Berg added that it's too early to know how much jail time McCann will face.
