Police car rolls over jaywalker
Jimmy Miles Duffey treated for injuries, arrested
Portland police are investigating how a patrol car accidentially rolled over a jaywalking suspect Monday evening.
Jimmy Miles Duffey, 31, was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released. He was then booked into the Multnomah County Jail on an outstanding warrant and charges of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree and Interfering with a Police Officer.
According to police at 8:41 p.m. on Nov. 19, officers got out of their patrol car to talk to an adult male after observing him jaywalk in the area of Southwest 12th Avenue and Columbia Street. The suspect, later identified Duffey, ran from officers but eventually was caught at Southwest Park Avenue and Main Street.
An officer was in the process of taking Duffey into custody when a cover officer arrived to assist in the arrest. The cover officer got out of the car and the car, still in gear, began to move forward and ran over Duffey who was lying on the ground.
A third officer ran and jumped into the moving car and got it stopped. Medical personnel were immediately called to help the injured Duffey.
The Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division conducted an investigation into the incident and will forward the results to the Police Bureau's Collision Review Board.
