Events

• The North Clackamas Arts Guild will host a large original art exhibit and competition Sept. 16-18 at the Jennings Lodge Retreat Center on River Road in Milwaukie. The event begins at 7 p.m. Friday with a short play to introduce Leland John, the judge. The event includes cash and prizes for the competition, music, food and hundreds of paintings. • Educational Recreational Adventures invites people of all ages to a free evening of traditional archery instruction and shooting at an indoor range in Boring on from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 27. ERA will provide all equipment needed. Participants will have the option to register for a weekly archery program to be offered at the range in Boring. • The Boring Saturday Market is held in the center of downtown Boring every Saturday through Sept. 24. In addition to the variety of vendors' offerings, there is entertainment and tours of the stained glass studio available. Each week's market is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and there is ample parking one-half block to the north on Dee Street. For information, call 503-663-7323.

• The Sandy Saturday Market is held in Centennial Plaza on the first Saturday of each month. In addition to the many vendors' offerings, there is a variety of entertainment and activities for kids. • The Sandy First Friday event is held in downtown Sandy on the first Friday of each month until late fall. The next First Friday is set for Oct. 7. Local businesses offer a variety of specials, sales, tastings or prize drawings. The event is sponsored by Sandy Main Street. • Shorty's Corner of Firwood is hosting an ongoing can and food drive to benefit the Sandy Community Action Center. Nonperishable donations are accepted daily at 42600 S.E. Highway 26 in Sandy. • Good Shepherd Community Church of Boring has planned a concert with Bryan Duncan, a Christian music performer, who will sing and tell the story of his recovery. • Nutz-n-Boltz Theater of Boring will present a dessert theater, with treats served during the production 'A Bad Year for Tomatoes' by John Patrick. The production, staged from Sept. 23 to Oct. 16, is the beginning of the production company's sixth season. The production is staged at the Boring Grange Hall, near Highway 212 in Boring, and can be seen Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are available on the website nnbtheater.com.

Art

• The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center is featuring the work of watercolor artist Sarah Lowe, whose work is scheduled to be on display throughout September, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week, at the chamber visitor center, 38963 Pioneer Blvd. Lowe's work includes natural landscapes, people and animals.

• The Wy'east Artisans Guild is featuring the work of its members at the Sandy Actors Theatre in an exhibit called 'Lift Me Up.' The exhibit, which opens at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, is designed to accompany the current play 'Bill W. and Dr. Bob.' Donations for a preview performance of the play will be taken Thursday at 7:30 p.m., just before the preview performance. Donations will assist the Guild with its community programs.
