Two suspects arrested for repetitive S.E. holdups

On Saturday morning, November 10, at 11:49 am, Portland Police responded to the report of an armed robbery at Coasters Bar and Grill, at 6015 S.E. Powell Boulevard.

As officers were enroute, additional information was received that the suspect left on foot, southbound, on S.E. 62nd Avenue. The suspect was described as a white male, 5'8" tall, thin build, wearing a stocking cap, armed with a handgun. Additionally, the report indicated that there may have been a second suspect outside the bar during the holdup.

Officers canvassing the area located a suspect matching the description, in a car along with another male. Officers stopped the car at S.E. 69th Avenue and Foster Road. Both men were subsequently arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

51-year-old Edward Stanley Hauer was identified as the gunman, and 32-year-old Julian Everett Matthews was identified as the getaway driver.

Robbery detectives subsequently determined that Hauer was also involved in several other robberies: Dotty’s Deli on August 25; Loto’s Deli on September 18; Bob and Alice’s Bar on September 21 and again on October 20; and, previously, Coasters Bar and Grill on October 29.

Hauer was charged with six counts of Robbery in the Second Degree. Matthews was charged with two counts of Robbery in the Second Degree.
