Mercedes Smelser scored in the 53rd minute off an assist from Shatanya Fernandez to lead David Douglas to a 1-0 win over Reynolds on Thursday night.

Reynolds pushed for the equalizer down the stretch with Giorgina Sorovigas having the best chance with a low blast from about 10 yards out. But Scots goalie Bre Fanning dived to the turf for the save with 2:45 on the clock.

'It was a pretty evenly played game with high pressure on both sides, we just finished our chance,' David Douglas coach Erin Bray said.
