‘Ye Olde Holiday Celebration’ today

West Tuality Habitat for Humanity will benefit from “Ye Olde Holiday Celebration,” a fundraising event set for 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Forest Grove.

A “sherry Hour traditional to the British Isles and the Celtic lands” is scheduled in the space between Grendel’s and the Friendly Vine on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Main Street. Wine, clarets, cookies and other holiday goodies will be available. Tickets are $10 at the door. The event is sponsored by Maggie’s Buns, The Friendly Vine and Grendel’s. For details visit

Public works’ Amundson retires

Brad Amundson, a City of Forest Grove public works department utility employee, will retire Friday, Nov. 30 after 17 years’ service, said Bev Maughan, executive assistant to City Manager Michael Sykes.

Annual toy drive

kicks off

‘Tis the season. Forest Grove Fire & Rescue has kicked off its annual toy drive to support local families in need this holiday season. Residents can help by dropping off a new unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item at either the Forest Grove or Cornelius fire stations or collection sites sponsored by local businesses. A special collection day is planned for the Cornelius Walmart on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with firefighters on hand to take shoppers’ donations.

Trail damaged during heavy rain

Forest Grove park district personnel reported minor damage to the trail in Forest Glen Park during heavy rainfall last week. Staff posted caution signage near the washed-out section of the trail and will repair the damage when weather allows. The remainder of the trail is open.

Pool hosts ‘winter invitational’ swim meet

The city and the Forest Grove Swim Club will host the 44th annual Winter Invitational Swim Meet Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center, 2300 Sunset Drive. More than 500 swimmers are registered for the three-day event, said Tom Gamble, park and recreation department manager. The aquatic center will be closed during regular hours and reopen at 6 a.m. Dec. 3.

Gingerbread Contest entries due

Anyone interested in submitting a homemade gingerbread house to the annual Gingerbread Contest can do so until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at the News-Times office, 2038 Pacific Ave. Visit for details.
