WATER POLO - Reynolds boys move into front-runners role
This year's Mount Hood Conference boys water polo title will be a battle between one of the state's best scorers in Reynolds senior Sterling Anderson and the reigning league MVP in Barlow goalie Ethan Hansen.
After sharing the title last year, Reynolds gained the upper hand early this season with a 15-10 win in Thursday's league opener. The Raiders broke open a close game by outscoring Barlow 10-4 in the second half. Anderson accounted for more than half of the scoring with eight goals.
'He comes from a basketball background, so he has a good sense of how to use the angles to score,' Raiders coach Dan Anderson said.
Reynolds can also look to Niki Gaither in the 2-meter spot, while Sebastian McCauley scored of his ability with three goals in the win over Barlow. The defense is keyed by shallow-end goalie Chris Lambert, who can reach most anything with his 6-foot-5 frame.
